Price and Verdict :

You can find the 1005HA for as low as Rs. 23,500 which is a very good for the features it offers. The Acer D250 also retails for around 20K but it's not as slim as the Asus.

The 1005HA strikes a good balance between those who wanted the long battery life of the 1101HA and the compact size of the 1008HA but didn't want to spend so much. It has all the ingredients for a good portable netbook like light weight, good ergonomics, battery life and decent bundle.

The price of the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 starts from Rs. 15,900 (delivery charges extra) on the Dell India website. This comes with 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive with XP pre-installed. The pricing is pretty fair. The high-end version, with a higher-resolution (HD) display, 2GB RAM, 320GB hard disk and Windows 7 Home Basic also carries a value for money tag of Rs. 20,000.

Price and Verdict :

The Eee PC 1201T sells for just about Rs. 21,500 (excluding taxes) but beware of the fact that it comes with no OS on-board. So you'll have to shell out more if you want to install Windows on it later. It is the first model we've tested that has broken netbook barriers in some respects. Overall, the 1201T is a good option for people who are interested in HD playback. But we really missed an HDMI port on it and we're sure many will feel the same. Also, if you're looking for a netbook with a five-hour plus battery life, then the 1201T is not for you.

Intel Core i9: Six Cores Of Speed

Intel Core i9: A Six Cores Processor

Intel's Core i9 chips won't hit the market for a few more months, but that hasn't stopped Polish site PCLab from putting the new 32-nanometer processor through its paces in a recent series of benchmark tests.
While testing the pre-release 2.8 GHz Gulftown chip, PCLab found a significant speed increase with certain applications. According to their report, certain resource-intensive tasks, such as editing video or 3D modelling, perform up to 50% faster than Intel's current Core i7 chip.

Unfortunately, the chip didn't shine in all areas; its performance is similar to that of older Core i7 chips when handling less demanding general activities.
However, the Core i9 CPUs fared well when it came to power usage, using less power and running cooler compared to older chips.
These results, which you can read in full here, could change before the Core i9's release in the first quarter of next year.

Intel launches Core i series processors

The introduction of the Core i series 32nm processors has brought in a good news for the ever increasing Indian gaming market. According to Nasscom, the gaming segment was estimated to be at around $300 million in 2009. The Core i-series launched on Jan 8 has three versions of processors-i3, i5 and i7.
Intel has integrated the 'HD graphics' technology inside the processor, which will enable casual games to run much faster than the existing processors in the market. "The HD graphics integrated for the first time on the CPU will not only make games play around 50 percent faster than our old processors, it will also make gaming a great visual experience. This technology has the potential to change the face of gaming in India, which is majorly a market for casual gaming. People in India will never buy a laptop only for gaming purposes, but with the default integrated graphics card on the CPU, a casual gamer can get a good gaming experience," said MY Udaysimha, Gaming Program Manager, Intel APAC.

The new processors also support 3D gaming without the need for an in-video card and offer full support for the new Microsoft Windows 7. The launch of the i-series chips also coincides with the arrival of Intel's new 32nm manufacturing process which will be used to immediately produce and deliver processors and features at a variety of price points. R Ravichandran, Director-Sales, Intel South Asia added, "These smart processors adapt to an individual's needs, automatically providing a 'boost of performance' for everyday applications. They become energy efficient to the point of shutting down processing cores or reducing power consumption to provide performance, when people need it or not."

Pricing :

Going by its new aggressive pricing strategy, Sony has priced the VIAO CW (VPCCW16FG/P) at Rs. 57,990 inclusive of all taxes. If you look at it as an overall package, it offers better value as compared with the slightly cheaper HP DV6. In fact, you get the Dell Studio 14 with exactly the same specifications but a HD4570 instead for a very similar price which is also a good candidate for someone looking in this price range.

3. HP Pavilion dv6-2005ax :

  • GOOD:Good looks, fairly sturdy build, good performance - especially in gaming, fingerprint scanner

  • VERDICT:HP's 15-inch laptop packs quite a punch, but lacks the juice to keep it going

Pricing :

The 2005AX model isn't a big update when compared to the DV6 1211AX. It sells for an MRP of Rs. 49,703. That's slightly expensive when you compare it to the Dell Studio 15, which sells with a Core i3 2.26 GHz processor and slightly inferior ATI Radeon 4570 graphics for almost 6,000 rupees cheaper. This laptop would make a a good buy if it were priced lesser by three-four thousand. It does deliver on the gaming front and is definitely suitable for playing newer games at a smooth pace.
If you are looking for a laptop with a big screen and want to do some gaming, the HP DV6 2005AX is a decent buy. Just make sure you have a power plug nearby and its not kept on your lap while doing resource-intensive

 4. DELL Alienware M17x :

  • GOOD:Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 (2.53 GHz), 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX280 1GB SLi, stealth mode (hybrid graphics), 2 x 500GB HDD RAID, 17-inch 1200P CCFL screen, Blu-ray/DVDRW ODD, BIOS processor multiplier 16x, HDMI & display port, great looks, good build
  • BAD:Weight, not much performance jump after overclocking, Expensive.
  • VERDICT:Meant for serious gamers or those who want ultimate power

Product Specifications

Processor Frequency CPU (GHz): 2.53
Processor Intel Core 2 Extreme X9300
Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 pixels

Pricing :
The Alienware M17x is available in three configurations in India. The one that we reviewed came with a 1440 x 900 pixels screen instead of the 1900 x 1200 screen that will sell in India. Other than that the rest of it was the full-blown setup. This all-out configuration sells for about Rs. 1,85,000 and would see an end user price of under two lakh.

The laptop is nothing but brilliant when compared to the Dell XPS M1730 and replaces it as the Monster of a Laptop. The only downside I see is its weight of 5.3 kg, which makes it quite heavy. The new monster in town is the Alienware M17x!

5. ASUS G51J3D :

  • GOOD:Attractive pricing, very good bundle, 3DVision ready, good performance, BluRay drive
  • BAD:Weak speakers, heats up quite a bit under load
  • VERDICT:Good value for money.

 Pricing :

So how many months of salary will you have to save up to get this? Turns out, not many. The Asus G51J gaming notebook will cost you just Rs. 99,000 plus taxes and comes with a two-year warranty. Now if you think I've completely lost my mind by calling a one lac notebook reasonably priced, let's have a look at what other options we have. Currently the only manufacturer offering such a config is the Alienware M15x by Dell. Compare both the configurations and then you can judge it yourself.

Acer Timeline X 4820T Review

Acer Timeline X 4820T

This slim laptop has decent processing power and is ideal for surfing the net and watching movies

Pros: Powerful Core i3 processor upgrade from earlier model, thin frame and lightweight, screen great for watching HD movies, comfortable keyboard and multi-touch touch-pad, good battery life

Cons: Screen hinge is a little weak, a little expensive

Expert Review :

Now, Acer has renewed the Timeline series with the Timeline X 4820T laptop, which we have for review today. The most interesting change in the 4820T is the upgrade to a regular laptop-grade Core i3 330M processor. However, what's more interesting is that Acer still prints the same "8 hour" battery life claim like they did with the Timeline 4810TZ. In our tests, the 4810TZ did manage to survive for 5-6 hours of real world usage, which was a good show by itself. Other than a change in design, the rest of the internal specs are the same. So, will the Core i3 processor end up wrecking the Timeline X's high battery life claim

? Let's find out.

Design and Build :

The Timeline X 4820T has gone through some cosmetic changes and looks different than the 4810TZ. The lid has a brushed metallic finish. On the inside too the grey-black combination is applied rather nicely; the color tone suggesting that the laptop is cut out for business professionals.

On the inside it retains the same 14-inch, 1366 x 768 pixel LCD screen. Text is fairly readable, but there was a slight reddish tint observed when the brightness was toned down. But on the other hand movies, especially 1080p HD ones looked awesome on it. One will definitely enjoy watching hi-def content on this laptop. The brightness is fairly high too. The webcam also delivers good cl

New Releases Of Laptops This Month

I'm bringing you some of the best new laptop releases of the week, and inviting you to let me know what you think. Did I miss something? Show you something you didn't know was out there? Let me know in the comments!

New releases of the week: HP dm1z

10985_main_hp-pavilion-dm1.jpg

New release for this week is the HP Pavilion dm1z, HP's latest AMD addition to the Pavilion line. This 11.6" computer is branded as a full laptop while being a lot closer in size and power to a netbook.,

HP has been showing AMD a lot of love lately, and this is the latest in a host of new AMD laptops they offer.

The HP Pavilion dm1z is an 11.6" laptop featuring a range of AMD Neo CPUs from the single-core K125 1.7GHz to the dual-core K625 1.5GHz, RAM options from 2GB to 8GB, and HDD options from 250GB to 500GB or 128GB SSD - although right now the upgrade from 250GB HDD to 320GB HDD is being tossed in for free. The new laptops is also very portable, weighing just 3.24lbs and .78″ thin, and also packs a 7 hour battery life on the standard 6-cell. Starting at $424 after coupon, this is a very interesting new option from HP.

New releases of the week: HP Envy 14

 10977_main_hp-envy-14-laptop.jpg

New release for this week is the HP Envy 14, HP's latest addition to the svelte Envy series. Despite coming in as the least expensive entry point into the Envy line, it strikes an effective middle ground between portability and power.

The HP Envy 14 is now available starting at $1049 after a coupon. It's not a low starting price, but it is the least expensive of all the HP Envy laptops, and has the same artful and stylish design as the rest of the series. The 14.5" laptop weighs 5.25lbs and the base price gets you Core-i3-370M, 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, long lasting battery and perhaps most interestingly of all, packs a 1600x900 resolution standard.

At the same time, the HP Envy 13 just got a huge price drop, giving another comparatively inexpensive option for Envy lovers. This 13.3" laptop weighs just 3.8lbs, and has a nice coupon on it so that you can really spec it up and still end up paying only $1099.

Intel Core i5 750 : Real Value For Money

1. Introduction:

On September 8, 2009, Intel released the first Core i5 processor: The Core i5 750,which is a 2.66 GHz quad-core with Turbo boost upto 3.2 GHz. Intel has codenamed it as Lynnfield. This Processor comes with Hyper-threading disabled.

Intel Core i5 750 processors have a whooping  8 MB L3 cache, a DMI bus running at 2.5 GT/s and support for dual-channel DDR3-800/1066/1333 memory.

 2. Closer Look:

Intel core i5 750 comes in a typical Intel Core series average sized blue box. However in this beautiful box lies the most powerful gaming processor for the price.

All of the Lynnfield processors launched today are based on the same Nehalem microarchitecture.First up is the smaller socket design, 1156 vs 1366. The lower pin-count is primarily the result of a revised memory controller. Tripple channel memory support has been dropped in favor of a more economical dual channel configuration.

Now having a closer look at this Quad-core processor it looks very similar to it's bigger brother i.e.Core i7

For the most part, its internal workings are identical to existing Core i7 processors which have been on sale since late last year. It's built using the same 45nm silicon production process and benefits from Intel's newest processor architecture, known as Nehalem.

However, the new Lynnfield processors officially support DDR3 1333, a step up from 1066. Unchanged, it seems, are the cache sizes and associativity. Each core gets 64 KB of L1 cache, 256 KB L2 cache, and shares a larger 8 MB L3 cache.

 3.Features and Specifications:
  • Quad-Core Processing: Provides four complete execution cores in a single processor package. Four dedicated physical threads help operating systems and applications deliver additional performance, so users can experience better multitasking and multithreaded performance across many types of applications and workloads.
  • Intel® Turbo Boost Technology: Dynamically increases the processor’s frequency as needed by taking advantage of thermal and power headroom when operating below specified limits. Get more performance automatically, when you need it the most.
  • 8 MB Intel® Smart Cache: This large last-level cache enables dynamic and efficient allocation of shared cache to all four cores to match the needs of various applications for ultra-efficient data storage and manipulation.
  • Integrated Memory Controller:  An integrated memory controller offers stunning memory read/write performance through efficient prefetching algorithms, lower latency, and higher memory bandwidth making the Intel® Core™ i5 processor ideal for dataintensive applications.
  • Intel® HD Boost:  Includes the full SSE4 instruction set, significantly improving a broad range of multimedia and compute-intensive applications. The 128-bit SSE instructions are issued at a throughput rate of one per clock cycle, allowing a new  level of processing efficiency with SSE4-optimized applications.
  • Performance
    • Maximize speed for demanding applications with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology,1 which accelerates processor clock speed up to 20 percent2 to match your workload.
    • Multitask up to 28 percent faster, so you can do more things at once
    • Enjoy incredibly fast computing with fewer frustrating lags.
  • Digital Media
    • Unleash an amazing digital media experience with up to 37 percent faster conversion of video for Web upload,4 up to 15 percent faster photo editing,5 and up to 17 percent faster conversion of CD music tracks to MP3.
  • Gaming
    • Get a 32 percent improvement in artificial intelligence for game characters.7
Here we will compare Intel Core i5 750's features and specifications with it's big brothers Intel Core i7-860 and Core i7-870.

Further deeply, we can compare it with other member of Core i7 models.

4.Benchmarking and Review:

Now, we will perform some test using SYSMark 2007. Here we will test the overall capabilities of these new generation processors.

Here we can clearly see i5 750 clearly outperforms i7 920 which is priced at $284 and i5 750 does not get far behind i7 940 for the difference in their price. We have seen above the overall performance of the Core i series processors. Now lets move on to test the real gaming performance of these processors.

Firstly, we will benchmark it using Fallout 3.

The numbers are all very close, but the Core i7 870 edges out the 975 for the lead here. The i5 750 manages to outperform the i7 920 thanks to its more aggressive turbo modes, but lags behind 975 but it was expected but for the huge price difference between these two, i5 750 emerges a clear value for money. The Phenom II X4 965 BE is faster than its closest competitor, but it needs a price adjustment in a major way.

LEFT 4 DEAD:

In LEFT 4 DEAD we can see that i5 750 outperforms i7 920 and got really close to i7 870 . This time 975 took the lead from 870.

In brief ,even when four cores are stressed, the i5 750 can pull ahead of the i7 920.

CRYSIS WARHEAD

Crysis Warhead is a standalone expansion pack situated in time with the story line of the original Crysis. As Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes, you have a secret mission to accomplish on the far side of the island. Along the way ,there are EMP blasts and aliens to contend with, as you hunt down the KPA chief. This game uses an enhanced version of the CryEngine 2.

This time also Core i7 975 maintains the lead over 870. And, i5 750 also merely outperformed 920. AMD still lagging behind like in all the benchmarkings.

5.CONCLUSION:

After seeing all the benchmarking, I can only say that if you have loads of money and budget is no problem for you , then get yourself Core i7 975 or 870. But if you are on a tight budget , then just close your eyes and get a Core i5 750 at around 200$, you will never regret. Moreover, by saving money on CPU , you can get yourself a good GPU.

These Lynnfield processors have a 40-45% lower idle power consumption than either of our Core 2 Quad models. The i5-750 uses a remarkable 56% less power at idle than the i7-920.
Realistically, not everyone needs or even has the budget for a $284 processor, and that is where the the decidedly more budget-friendly $199 i5-750 comes into play. Despite having one hand tied behind its back due to a lack of Hyper-Threading, this model put the proverbial smackdown on the Core i7-920, pretty much across the board. It also resoundingly outperformed two close competitors in the form of the Phenom II X4 945 and the Core 2 Quad Q9550.

 Pros:

  • Performance
  • Pricing (i5 750)
  • Overclocking
  • Turbo Technology
 Cons:
  • Temperatures when overclocked
  •
Intel Core i5 750 provides substantially better performance when it's needed most, it is impressively energy-efficient, and fairly affordable at around $200 too.
We give it 9.5 out of 10.
